Asakura Isokichi
Born in 1913. Died in 1998. Born in Ishikawa Prefecture. From an early age, he learned the basic techniques of pottery from his father, Isokichi. In 1928, he studied under the first Tokuda Yasokichi. In 1946, he studied under Kitade Tojiro. He was selected for the first Nitten exhibition in the same year, and has been selected every year since. In 1984, he became the first potter from the prefecture to become a member of the Japan Art Academy. In 1992, he became the first person related to Kutani ware to be awarded the Person of Cultural Merit. In 1993, he became an advisor to the Nitten exhibition. In 1996, he was awarded the Order of Culture.
