Toyozo Arakawa
Born in 1894. Died in 1985. Born in Tajimi City.
In 1922, he became the factory manager of the Miyanaga Tozan Kiln in Kyoto, and later became the kiln manager of the Hoshigaoka Kiln, which was built by Kitaoji Rosanjin in Kamakura.
In 1930, he discovered the remains of an ancient kiln for Shino and Setoguro ware from the Momoyama period in Ogaya, Mino, and made efforts to revive the Momoyama period's Shino and Setoguro ware.
In 1955, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) "Shino and Setoguro". In 1965, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. In 1971, he was awarded the Order of Culture.
