Kagoshima Juzo
Born in Meiji 31. Died in 1982. Born in Fukuoka City. Poet and paper doll artist.
In 1913, he graduated from Fukuoka Higher Elementary School. In 1918, he entered Saburosuke Okada's Hongo Western Painting Institute.
In 1919, he founded the Kosei-kai, which started an art movement in doll making. In 1920, he participated in the launch of the magazine Koro. He joined Araragi and studied under Shimaki Akahiko. In 1926, after Akahiko's death (March), he studied under Tsuchiya Fumiaki.
In 1944, he was a judge for "Araragi". In December 1945, he founded and supervised the poetry magazine "Choshio". In 1946, he edited and published the Kanto Araragi Association magazine "Shinsen".
In 1960, he held his second solo exhibition of paper dolls and terracotta at Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi. In 1961, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for "paper dolls."
