Munemaro Ishiguro
Born in 1893. Died in 1968. Originally from Toyama Prefecture. Without following a specific teacher, he created pottery in Shibuya, Tokyo, Ogawa in Saitama Prefecture, and Kanazawa. In 1935, he built a kiln in Yase, Kyoto. He made efforts to reproduce iron-glazed pottery such as Tenmoku from the Song Dynasty in China. In 1939, he won a silver medal at the Paris World Exposition. In 1955, he participated in the formation of the Japan Kogei Association and served as a director. In the same year, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for "iron-glazed pottery". In 1956, he became the chairman of the Yase Pottery Kiln. In 1963, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. In 1968, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure Third Class.
