Munemaro Ishiguro
Born in 1893. Died in 1968. Born in Toyama Prefecture.
He did not follow a specific teacher, but made pottery in Shibuya, Tokyo, Ogawa, Saitama, Kanazawa, etc. In 1935, he built a kiln in Yase, Kyoto. He made efforts to reproduce iron-glazed pottery such as Tenmoku from the Chinese Song Dynasty.
In 1939, he received a silver medal at the Paris World Exposition. In 1955, he participated in the formation of the Japan Kogei Association and served as a director. In the same year, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) for "iron-glazed pottery." In 1956, he became the chairman of Yase Pottery. In 1963, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. In 1968, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Third Class.
