Born in 1904. Died in 1982. Born in Gion, Kyoto. The sixth son of lacquer master Kuroda Kamekichi.
He was a member of the Mingei movement along with Kanjiro Kawai and Muneyoshi Yanagi, and later founded the Kamigamo Mingei Association.
In 1970, he was the first person in the field of woodworking to be recognized as a holder of an important intangible cultural property (living national treasure). In 1971, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. He is one of Japan's leading wood lacquer craftsmen.
