Kei Fujiwara
Born in 1899. Died in 1983. Originally from Okayama Prefecture. In his youth, he moved to Tokyo hoping to become a writer, but in 1938 he returned home without having achieved his goal. After returning home, at the age of 39, he took his first steps in pottery making under the tutelage of Mimura Baikei. He then received instruction in pottery techniques from Kaneshige Toyo and began his career as a potter. In 1957, he was recognized as a holder of Okayama Prefecture's intangible cultural property "Bizen ware." In 1963, he received the Sanyo Culture Award. Okayama Prefecture Culture Award. In 1970, he was recognized as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) "Bizen ware." In 1972, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Fourth Class.
