Yasunari Matsui
Born in 1927. Originally from Nagano Prefecture. In 1966, he studied under Tamura Koichi, focusing on the Neri-jozu technique of pottery making and was taught by him. In 1971, he received the Japan Crafts Association President's Award at the 18th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. In 1973, he received the Chichibunomiya Cho-gai Award at the 2nd Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition. In 1975, he received the NHK Chairman's Award at the 22nd Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. In 1988, he was awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon. In 1991, he received the 4th Okada Mokichi Grand Prize from the MOA Museum of Art. In 1993, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) of Neri-jozu.
