Fujio Koyama [Kozanshi]
Born in 1900. Died in 1975. Originally from Okayama Prefecture. Studied under Zoroku Mashimizu in Kyoto. After that, he devoted himself to the study of ancient ceramics, investigating ancient kiln sites throughout Japan and China. After the war, he worked for the Tokyo National Museum and the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Properties, and was active as a leading authority on ceramics. In his later years, he returned to ceramics, leaving behind many free-spirited and varied works. In addition to ceramics, he also devoted himself to the excavation of kilns and the development of traditional crafts, and is renowned worldwide as a ceramics scholar.
