Fujio Koyama, who was famous as a leading researcher of ancient ceramics and was active as a ceramic artist while cultivating friendships with modern and contemporary craftsmen, produced works in a variety of genres, utilizing his outstanding taste and technique, as well as the vast knowledge he acquired through tireless study.

He had a special affection for Hagi ware, visiting Hagi at his own expense to conduct research in order to have Hagi ware designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property. It is well known that he visited various kilns to create pottery, leaving behind many masterpieces. The soft shapes and warm textures are characteristic of Koyama-sensei's artistic quality, and his works really express the individuality of the artist. Koyama-sensei worked energetically on sake vessels, and his sake cups are very easy to hold and drink from. They are the result of his high artistic sense and deep knowledge of art, and are truly beautifully made.
