He is a ceramic artist from Osaka Prefecture.
His family ran a kimono business, and he grew up in that environment, exposed to many kimono and obi designs from an early age, which honed his artistic sense. What led him to become a potter was when he was evacuated from Osaka during the war, and happened to be near Kawakita Handeishi's kiln, where he began helping out. He was drawn to the world of pottery, and decided to become a potter rather than take over the family business. Dohei learned a lot from Handeishi, and after Handeishi passed away he took over Hironaga Touen, so he is known as Handeishi's successor.
