He learned pottery techniques from the first Yamada Jozan, who was known as a master craftsman, from an early age. From around 1947, he took on the name of his father, Kojozan, and after his father's death, he became the third Jozan.
In 1994, the company was recognized as a holder of an intangible cultural property designated by Aichi Prefecture for its red clay teapot, and in 1998, it was recognized as the first holder of an important intangible cultural property designated by the national government (living national treasure) in Aichi Prefecture for its Tokoname ware (teapot), and continues to carry on the 1,000-year tradition and history of Tokoname ware to this day. This is a refined and elegant masterpiece that is typical of Tokoyama.
