Born in 1895. Died in 1981. Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture. At the age of 15, he began a rigorous training in pottery making under his grandfather Sessan and father Setsudo (the 9th Kyusedo). In 1927, when his father retired, he succeeded to the Miwa potter's wheel and assumed the name of Kyusetsu the 10th. In 1956, he was recognized as the holder of the Yamaguchi Prefecture Intangible Cultural Asset “Hagiyaki”. In the same year, he was selected for the first time at the 3rd Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition. In 1957, he was selected as an intangible cultural property technician who should take measures such as making records, and inherited the traditional Hagi-yaki technique. In 1967, he handed over the Miwa kiln to his younger brother (Kyusetsu XI) and took the name Kyuwa. In 1970, he was certified as the holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) “Hagi-yaki”. In 1973, he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.
