This is a Bizen tea bowl made by Mr. Touyo Kaneshige, the first Living National Treasure and the founder of the great Bizen ware industry. He was the first Bizen ware potter to become a Living National Treasure. He succeeded in reviving Bizen ware, which had lost popularity to Imariyaki and Kutani ware since the mid-Edo period, and is called the “founder of the Bizen ware revival. Not only was he an excellent potter himself, but he also trained many apprentices and produced a succession of living national treasures from among them, and his achievements in the history of Bizen ware are immeasurable.
