He looked up to Kato Tokuro, the founder of modern Mino pottery, as his teacher and stuck to his teachings until the end, continuing to create pottery using Echizen soil in Echizen, Fukui Prefecture. This work is a wonderful piece of playful design created with original sensibility. Yamada Kazu develops innovative and humorous works based on solid knowledge and technique. Both the shape and the glaze are outstanding. The design is made of bright, beautiful red glaze and nail-carved inlay. This is a modern Oribe that is backed by solid technique and has a refined sensibility.
