Yamamoto Kazuhiro was born in Nagasaki in 1944. He learned Arita ware on his own, and began researching pure platinum color at the age of 41. He is a famous potter who uses 98% pure platinum, and is the only person in the world to create pottery using this material. The body of the pottery is decorated with a rising carp, which is likened to the gateway to success, and small raised patterns. This is achieved by applying a muddy layer of clay 20 to 30 times to create a three-dimensional finish, and then applying platinum over it using the same method, making full use of the "mounding" technique.
By continuing this painstaking, patient work in silence, a one-of-a-kind piece of work is created.
This work is made by the same artist as a piece now in the collection of the Spanish National Ceramics Museum.
