Yuki Hayama is a renowned contemporary ceramic artist whose exquisite paintings are some of the most exquisite in contemporary ceramics, surpassing all others, and who expresses fantastical worlds originating from ancient civilizations of the East and West with his own unique interpretations using his superhumanly detailed depictions.
For hundreds of years, ceramic painters have dreamed of capturing the mystical colors of nature's fruits and flowers on overglaze porcelain. This dream was made possible by the Qing dynasty's "Fonsai," a glass paint similar to Western cloisonné paint, but expressing colors using traditional Japanese paints remains a difficult technique that relies on intuition and luck, even today.
Bankasai is a work that expresses the beauty of nature using traditional Japanese paints, based on sketches accumulated over many years. It is truly gorgeous and alluring. 128 patterns are memorized by hand and painted freehand. Yuki Hayama's work requires unimaginable mental strength and skill, making it increasingly valuable.
"Bankasai is created with the aim of passing on to future generations the uniquely Japanese technique of overglaze porcelain, taking it to the utmost level of detail and precision. No matter how valuable a technique is, it will not be passed down unless it stimulates people's aesthetic sense and captivates them. The artist himself has spent many years burning the colors of the flowers he painted into his eyes and mind, and when reconstructing them, he has removed the framework of the seasons." (From the work's description)
