In Karatsu ware, which is heavily influenced by Korean Joseon Dynasty ceramics, its roots, Hakeme Karatsu is a technique considered to be directly inherited from Joseon, alongside Mishima Karatsu.
Hakeme Karatsu refers to ceramics formed from Karatsu clay, decorated with brush or comb patterns, or with white slip applied with a brush.
Hakeme Karatsu, as a type of Karatsu pottery, was widely cherished throughout the Edo period, after Ko-Karatsu came to an end with the advent of Imari porcelain.
What distinguishes Jinenbou's Hakeme is the prevalence of powerful pieces where the thick brushstrokes feel three-dimensional.
The surface and rim of vessels formed from coarse clay become uneven, and the thick brushstrokes and finger marks characteristic of Jinenbou accumulate transparent glaze. Air bubbles form within this glaze, and these elements come together to create the finished product. Please take Jinenbou's dynamic Hakeme Karatsu, crafted in this manner, into your hands and fully enjoy each and every one of its unique finishes.
