Bernard Leach, a unique British ceramist, contributed to the development of the Mingei movement with Muneyoshi Yanagi, Kenkichi Tomimoto, and Shoji Hamada. After returning to England in 1920, he built a Japanese-style climbing kiln in St Ives, Cornwall, and established the Leach Pottery in 1922, which served as his base throughout his life. His distinctive style integrated Western pottery techniques, such as slipware, with East Asian ceramics.

This exquisite piece features a bird motif drawn with a light touch and soft cinnabar glazes throughout.
