A work by Uichi Shimizu, a world-renowned potter who studied Chinese ceramics under Munemaro Ishiguro, a Living National Treasure in "Iron Glaze Pottery." After training at the National Kyoto Ceramics Research Institute, Shimizu served as an assistant in the ceramics department of the Kyoto Municipal Institute of Industrial Research. He then dedicated himself to pottery, primarily at his home studio, and at the age of 59, became the youngest ever Living National Treasure in "Iron Glaze Pottery." In his later years, he relocated his studio to the foothills of Mt. Horai on the western shore of Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture, where he continued his work.
