Kazuyoshi Kitamura of Kutani-yaki Chikuryu Kiln not only creates traditional works but also produces numerous innovative pieces based on traditional techniques, such as sneakers, stag beetles, and artificial nails, conveying the diverse appeal of Kutani-yaki. He states, "I want to convey the charm of Kutani-yaki through impact."

This work is also created using traditional Kutani-yaki techniques. The patterns utilize traditional Kutani patterns, adding color through a patchwork-like method. To the traditional "Kutani Gosai" (five Kutani colors), an extract of seaweed is mixed in, creating a raised, three-dimensional effect in the painted areas, enhancing the texture. Furthermore, meticulous and brilliant craftsmanship shines through in various details, including the use of real gold.

The bicycle is a custom-made product from Takaoka Douki (copperware). Firing it to perfectly match the bicycle is an extremely difficult task. The sight of the adorable cat riding the bicycle, with its scarf fluttering, is endearing.

The cat and the bicycle are created separately, and only those that fit together perfectly at the end become finished works. The most challenging part is the hands. They are bent and fired to grip the handlebars, and then checked for fit. Less than half of the pieces fired become finished works, making them rare.

A dedicated acrylic case for display is included, so there's no need to worry about dust.

On December 22nd, the "Japan Mastery Collection," Japan's first luxury brand for regional revitalization, opened at Haneda Airport Terminal 3, where his works are also exhibited. He is highly active as a leading flag-bearer among Japan's representative Kutani-yaki artists.
