Kazuyoshi Kitamura of Kutani Chikuryu Kiln is a leading figure in Kutani ware, not only producing traditional pieces but also many innovative works such as sneakers, rhinoceros beetles, and artificial nails based on traditional techniques, conveying the diverse appeal of Kutani ware. He states, "I want to convey the charm of Kutani ware through impact."

This work is also created using traditional Kutani ware techniques. Traditional Kutani patterns are utilized, and colors are added using a patchwork-like method. A mixture of traditional Kutani Gosai (five colors) and boiled seaweed is incorporated to give a three-dimensional effect, raising the texture in the painted areas. Furthermore, the use of genuine gold and other elements throughout the piece highlights the meticulous and brilliant handwork.

The bicycle is a custom-made product from Takaoka Copperware. Firing the pottery to fit the bicycle is an extremely difficult task. The sight of the cute frog riding the bicycle, with its scarf fluttering in the wind, is endearing.

The frog and the bicycle are made separately, and only those that fit perfectly in the end become finished works. The most challenging part is the hands. They are bent and fired to grip the handlebars, and whether they fit the handlebars is crucial. After firing, less than half of the pieces become finished works, making this a rare creation.

A dedicated acrylic case for display is included, so there is no need to worry about dust.

The "Japan Mastery Collection," a new luxury brand showcasing regional revitalization from Japan, opened at Haneda Airport Terminal 3 on December 22nd. His works are also exhibited there, and he is a highly active standard-bearer as a leading Kutani ware artist representing Japan.
