After graduating from the Department of Design, Crafts, Tokyo School of Fine Arts, he studied under Kato Hoshimo. Later, while working as an assistant to Tomimoto Kenkichi, he mastered the techniques of overglaze porcelain. He established his own unique coloring technique, "Glow Painting Coloring," and in 1986, his skills were so highly praised that he was designated a Living National Treasure for his work on overglaze porcelain. Fujimoto Yoshimichi is one of Japan's leading overglaze porcelain artists, and he has also worked hard to train the next generation, including as professor and president of Tokyo University of the Arts.
