This item was made before modern times (Meiji era), during the Edo period, and has been restored to the rim; however, as an Edo period piece, this is unavoidable and is reflected in the price.
It is a large, thin piece that makes good use of the soft Raku material, and its ingenious clog-shaped design makes it comfortable to hold. The brush strokes, which are applied in exquisite shades around the circumference, are pleasant to look at. Raku cups wrapped in a glaze with a refined, tasteful look are rare, but this is one of very few remaining pieces from the Edo period that is the 10th generation (Dannyu).
