22137 Living National Treasure Kato Hajime (colored lapis lazuli and gold painted reed pattern water jar)

This is a work by Living National Treasure Kato Hachimoe. The underside of the lid reads "Hiyoshi Takamurakyo." He built the Hiyoshi kiln in 1940, and was recognized as a Living National Treasure in 1961. He passed away in 1968 at the age of 68. In his final years, he left behind works with "underglaze gold leaf." This work is thought to have been created around 1965.
