Born in Okayama Prefecture in 1941, after graduating from high school he worked for a company, but was drawn to the charm of Bizen ware, and in 1964 he joined the Bizen Ceramic Art Center as a member of its first class and embarked on a career in pottery.

From 1967, he studied under the Isezaki brothers Mitsuru and Jun, honing his ceramic techniques.

In 1971, he built a climbing kiln at his current location and became independent.
