Born in 1910. Originally from Yamaguchi Prefecture. The third son of Setsudo, the 9th head of the Hagi ware Miwa kiln in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. He learned the traditional techniques of the family tradition from his older brother, the 10th head Kyusetsu (Kyuwa). He then studied tea ceremony ceramics under Kawakita Handeishi. In 1957, he was selected for the 4th Traditional Crafts Exhibition for the first time. In 1967, upon the retirement of his older brother Kyusetsu, he took on the name of the 11th head Kyusetsu. In 1968, he was awarded the Chugoku Culture Award. In 1970, he was awarded the Yamaguchi Prefecture Cultural Merit Award. In 1982, he was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Fourth Class. In 1983, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) of "Hagi ware." This is a top-quality item that condenses its bold appearance, kiln changes, and one-of-a-kind presence into a sake cup.
