Although there was a period of decline in the long history of Hagi ware, the 10th and 11th generations of Kyusetsu are known for their greatest achievement of creating a near pure white Hagi ware called “Kyusetsu White” that revitalized Hagi ware. The fact that both of them were later certified as living national treasures also suggests that they were popular among the successive generations of Kyusetsu artists.

The white hagi glaze used to produce this work has a warmth that reminds us of the melting of spring snow, which is representative of the style of the artist.

This work is a gem with a full appearance, beautifully rested snow-white, and soft kiln-forming visible throughout.
