Kakiemon 14th has inherited the traditional Kakiemon style and further evolved the muddy technique established by his predecessors to produce excellent works of art with outstanding descriptive ability and a high sense of style. This piece was made by the renowned artist Sakaida Kakiemon XIV, who has made great achievements, including being recognized as a Living National Treasure of Arita-yaki porcelain in color.
The “Plum, Morning Glory, Hagi, and Camellia” design is one of the most popular subjects of his paintings, which are brightly and beautifully rendered on a milky white muddy ground with light and extended brush strokes and a clean, unobtrusive color scheme. This is a superb piece of artwork, with its perfectly proportioned and powerful form, vividly colored and realistic painting, and densely painted but with a beautiful blank space. The works of the fourteenth generation, who has carried the 400-year history of Arita on his shoulders, continue to receive steady acclaim and will continue to attract much attention in the future.
