Kazuhiro Yamamoto
Born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1944, Yamamoto is a self-taught master of Arita-yaki porcelain and began researching pure platinum coloring at the age of 41. Using 98% pure platinum, he is the only master potter in the world to produce pottery using “pure platinum.
Kazuhiro began his training in Arita/Imari ware in 1969 in his family's home in Saga Prefecture, and is famous for having perfected platinum coloring using high-purity platinum, which he began in 1985. This unique technique enabled him to emphasize the color and luster of porcelain, creating a different hue from the previously known layering of gold, red, and blue underglazes and overglazes.
In 2010, he held a special invitational exhibition at the National Ceramics Museum in Valencia, Spain. His artistic talent has been recognized by the honorary president of the Catalan Ceramic Society as a “jewel of ceramics,” and Yamamoto's collection has received worldwide acclaim.
A summer festival tradition and held in many places, “At the market held at Sensoji Temple on July 10, the Hozuki Kannon's merit day, it is said that one day on this day brings benefits equivalent to 46,000 days of good fortune.” (From the commentary of the work)
