Wakao Toshimasa is said to be the leading figure in the "Nezumi Shino" style of pottery, and is a ceramist who has been recognized as a holder of Gifu Prefecture's Important Intangible Cultural Property (Shino).
Born in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture in 1933, after graduating from junior high school he worked at a pottery factory while self-taught in pottery techniques and also began researching Shino ware.
Since then, he has won numerous awards and currently exhibits his works mainly in solo exhibitions.
In 1995, he was designated as a holder of the intangible cultural heritage technique (Shino) of his hometown, Tajimi City, and in 2003 he was recognized as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Gifu Prefecture.
The cranes flying are very graceful.
