With his rich sense of color and extraordinary sense of pottery, Matsui Yasunari established the technique of Nerijozu. He presented a modern, unique style of pottery based on traditional techniques, and achieved many great feats, including being recognized as a holder of the country's Important Intangible Cultural Property for his Nerijozu technique. This is a representative work from his final years, a Suipu Nerijo sake cup.

Its characteristic is its vivid colors, reminiscent of jewels or glass, and its translucent shine. The Sui-ceramic series specializes in flower motifs, and this sake cup gives the impression of blue flowers in full bloom. It is also characteristic of this period that it is made on a large scale. Professor Matsui's final years were marked by days of battling illness, and only a limited number of his works remain.
