He was born in Kyoto as the eldest son of the ceramist Yagi Kazuso. In 1937, he graduated from the sculpture department of Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts. In 1947, he published a statement of purpose for the Young Ceramists Group. In 1948, he formed the group Sodeisha with Suzuki Osamu, Yamada Hikaru, Matsui Misuke, and Kanae Tetsuo. In 1957, he became a part-time lecturer at the sculpture department of Kyoto City University of Arts (now Kyoto City University of Arts). That was the same year that he began producing black pottery works for the first time. In 1969, he published "Yagi Kazuo Works Collection" (Kyuryudo). In 1972, "Yagi Kazuo Solo Exhibition" was held at Isetan Tokyo, and he released a series of books. In 1978, he exhibited his works "Haiku I - XI" at "FICA78" held at the Grand Palais in Paris, entitled "Yagi Kazuo Ceramic Sculpture Exhibition", which was highly praised.

Yagi Kazuo's specialty is this piece, which uses white glaze on red clay, and he has created many of them. Some pieces are completely covered in white glaze, but this piece is painted in parts so that it is peeled off, giving it an ancient feel.
*Each piece has a dent (approximately 5 cm).
