A hard-to-find work by Sawako Kobayashi. A rising star who will take Japanese ceramic art to the next level, making full use of kneading and color layering techniques.

The kneading technique involves mixing pigments into the clay to create colored clay, and then creating patterns using clay of different colors. Unlike painting, which is done by painting on the surface, the pattern penetrates through to the back, resulting in the same design on both sides.

The Saisō technique involves applying layers of coloured clay and then digging them in after they have dried. It is called Saisō to distinguish it from Nerikomi. Saisō creates an uneven surface that is integrated with the pattern, making it enjoyable to touch.
