This is a work by Jun Isezaki. Utilizing his inquisitiveness towards ancient Bizen and the sculptural sense he has cultivated through sculpture, his mature pottery techniques convey the dignity of a veteran artist. He uses either a climbing kiln or a medieval anagama kiln depending on the piece, and is particular about firing using split pine wood, never using electric or gas kilns. The black clay used for the lacquer is very matte and deep in color, creating an alluring, deep, quiet black that seems to absorb light.
