Although he began making pottery at the extremely late age of 40 in the world of pottery, he became the second nationally certified potter to hold the qualifications for technical preservation after Kaneshige Toyo. While studying under Kaneshige Toyo and Kitaoji Rosanjin, he also devoted himself to the revival of ancient Bizen ware, and through his own training, he developed simple and generous works that contrasted with Kaneshige Toyo's powerful and rough style. After achieving success on the international stage, Fujiwara Kei, a master potter who firmly established his position as a representative Bizen ware artist, was eventually designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan. A careful look at the photographs will fully convey the charm of this piece, without much further explanation. The beautifully balanced molding and other features give it a refined style. This piece perfectly captures the essence of simple and generous Bizen ware.
