Born into the family of a doctor in Kochi Prefecture, Professor Yanagihara unexpectedly encountered pottery and spent his student days interacting with his teacher, Professor Tomimoto Kenkichi, his classmate Morino Yasuaki, his senior Kamoda Shoji, and members of the Sodeisha group, including Kumakura Junkichi, Yagi Kazuo, and Suzuki Osamu. He has produced works with shapes, colors, and patterns that were unimaginable in Japan at the time.
