He opened his kiln in Shigaraki at the young age of 33 and studied under Daiki Tachibana of Daitokuji Temple. These are the works of Sugimoto Sadamitsu, a popular and active potter who has held solo exhibitions around the world and enjoys outstanding popularity and acclaim both at home and abroad.
Water jars bearing the inscription "Habagukuro" are known as masterpieces of old Iga ware. They are characterized by a bag-shaped body with a bulging bottom, and large kiln cracks that occurred during firing. These kiln cracks and distortions are appreciated as a part of the scenery, and are said to have been highly praised by Furuta Oribe, a military commander and tea master of the Momoyama period. Old Iga water jars bearing the inscription "Habagukuro" are also in the collections of the Gotoh Museum of Art and the Mie Prefectural Art Museum.
