As a professor at the National Ceramics Testing Institute under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, he engaged in fundamental research on iron glazes (Tenmoku glazes) and base materials, and devoted himself to Tenmoku glaze research in Gojozaka, Kyoto. After establishing his own unique technique, he served as an auditor for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition and a director of the Japan Crafts Association. This masterpiece by the highly popular artist, Kimura Morikazu, continues to have many fans today. His artistic talent is evident in his unique take on the techniques representative of ancient Chinese ceramics, sublimating them into new works. Oil-drop Tenmoku glazes are characterized by silvery-white crystals resembling oil floating on the surface of water that appear in the jet-black glaze. This beautiful pattern is a type of "yohen" phenomenon, created by accidental chemical changes that occur in the kiln during firing.
