Kinjo Jiro (1925-2004) is Okinawa's only Living National Treasure (holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property) of Tsuboya ware. He built his own kiln in Tsuboya, Naha City in 1946, and, under the guidance of Hamada Shoji and Kawai Kanjiro, devoted himself to the development of Tsuboya ware. His works are particularly famous for their "fish patterns" featuring fish and shrimp motifs, and their simple yet powerful expressions have captivated many people.
