Born in 1910. Originally from Yamaguchi Prefecture. The third son of Setsudo, the 9th head of the Hagi ware Miwa kiln in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. He learned the traditional family techniques from his older brother, Kyusetsu (Kyuwa), the 10th head. He then studied tea ceremony ceramics under Kawakita Handeishi. In 1957, he was selected for the 4th Traditional Crafts Exhibition for the first time. In 1967, upon his brother Kyusetsu's retirement, he took on the name Kyusetsu, the 11th head. In 1968, he received the Chugoku Culture Award. In 1970, he received the Yamaguchi Prefecture Cultural Merit Award. In 1982, he received the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Fourth Class. In 1983, he was recognized as a holder of the Important Intangible Cultural Property (Living National Treasure) of "Hagi ware."
