After graduating from Kyoto Prefectural Momoyama High School in 1966, he aspired to become a potter and was taught by Shimizu Tadashi. In 1971, he completed the specialized course at the Kyoto Prefectural Pottery Training School and became an instructor there. He began researching Tenmoku pottery at the Gojozaka communal climbing kiln "Kanechugama," and sought not only to reproduce classical works but also to find his own way of expression. In 1977, he resigned from his position as an instructor at the training school to devote himself to pottery, and in 1979, when "Kanechugama" was closed, he built a gas kiln at his home.

In 1988, he received training from Shimizu Uichi at the Important Intangible Cultural Property "Iron-glazed Pottery" Successor Training Seminar. *Major public collections include the Museum of Kyoto, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the New Orleans Museum of Art.

Kamata Koji's Yohen Yuteki sake cups are known for their mysterious beauty.

Color change: It features a contrast between black iron and silver, and its shine changes depending on the amount of light and whether or not sake is present.

Space-like expression: Numerous specks that resemble stars shining in the night sky float on the surface, and the bewitching colors evoke outer space.

Exquisite craftsmanship: The flow of oil droplets is beautifully expressed, and the inside bottom is evenly glazed. The foot is carved with such precision that it rivals that of a Tenmoku tea bowl.
