Jiro Kinjo, a Living National Treasure of Tsuboya ware (Yachimun), has left behind many warm works that are in harmony with the nature of Okinawa. In particular, his "fish design" sake cup, decorated with a painted fish design, is known as one of his masterpieces.
This work depicts the motif of fish, which he loved throughout his life.
Characteristics of the work
Simple and adorable fish: The fish depicted are characterized by a design that makes the viewer feel a sense of familiarity.
Diverse techniques: In addition to line engraving, a variety of techniques are used, including ichin, tobikanna, hakeme, yubakiki, and nerijozu, and each piece is unique and charming.
Reflecting the Okinawan climate: Made with locally harvested white and red clay, as well as an ash glaze mixed with coral limestone, the pieces capture the richness of Okinawa's natural environment.
