Zenzo Fukushima, born on October 29, 1959, is the 16th generation head of Chigaiwa Kiln, a Koishiwara ware pottery in Fukuoka Prefecture.
1999: Received the Grand Prize at the Japan Ceramic Exhibition for "Nakano Ame-yu Kake-wake Bowl"
2013: Received the Takamatsunomiya Memorial Award at the 60th Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition
2014: Awarded the Medal with Purple Ribbon
2017: Certified as a Holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property "Koishiwara ware" (Living National Treasure)
"Kakuyu-hai" refers to sake cups made using the "Kakuyu" technique by Zenzo Fukushima, a Living National Treasure recognized for Koishiwara ware. This "Kakuyu" technique involves mixing iron-rich clay from Koishiwara into the glaze to produce a matte red color.
