Kitamura Kazuyoshi of Kutani Takeryu Kiln, in addition to traditional works, has created numerous innovative pieces such as sneakers, stag beetles, and artificial nails, based on traditional techniques, conveying the diverse charm of Kutani ware. He states, "I want to convey the appeal of Kutani ware through impact."
This piece is also created using traditional Kutani ware techniques. Traditional Kutani patterns are utilized, and colors are added using a patchwork-like method. Traditional colors, known as Kutani Gosai, are mixed with boiled seaweed to give the painted areas a raised, three-dimensional effect, enhancing the texture. Furthermore, the meticulous and brilliant craftsmanship shines through in various details, such as the use of real gold.
The bicycle is a custom-made product from Takaoka Douki. Firing it to fit the bicycle is an extremely difficult task. The sight of the adorable rabbit riding the bicycle with its scarf fluttering in the wind is endearing.
The rabbit and the bicycle are made separately, and only those that fit perfectly together are released as finished works. The most challenging part is the hands. They are bent and fired to appear as if gripping the handlebars, and then checked for a perfect fit. After firing, fewer than half of the pieces become finished works, making them extremely rare.
A dedicated acrylic case for display is included, so there's no need to worry about dust.
The "Japan Mastery Collection," Japan's first regional revitalization luxury brand, opened on December 22nd at Haneda Airport Terminal 3, where his works are also exhibited. He is currently very active as a leading flag-bearer among Japan's prominent Kutani ware artists.
This is a work by "Japan Kutani Kitamura Kazuyoshi," who continues to captivate the world. He is a highly anticipated artist today.
