Born in Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1917 (Taisho 6). The third son of Sakakura Shinbei XII. Graduated from Yamaguchi Prefectural Hagi Commercial School in 1934 (Showa 9). Entered the family business after his eldest brother (posthumously recognized as the 13th generation) was killed in action. Succeeded his father as Sakakura Shinbei XIV in 1960 (Showa 35) upon his father's death. Received the Chugoku Cultural Award in 1971 (Showa 46). Designated as a Yamaguchi Prefectural Intangible Cultural Asset in 1972 (Showa 47). Received the Yamaguchi Prefecture Award (Achievement in Art and Culture) in 1974 (Showa 49). His artistic style builds upon the gentle and refined aesthetic suitable for tea ceremonies established by his father, Shinbei XII, by incorporating modern sensibilities, excelling particularly in tea ceramics.
