This is a masterpiece by Yasozo Tokuda III, a Living National Treasure in Kutani Ware (Iro-yu Jiki) and a world-renowned ceramic artist whom Japan proudly presents to the world. He introduced Kutani Ware, with its deep history and tradition, to the global stage, making it so famous that it was dubbed "Japan Kutani." His works are now collected and exhibited in museums worldwide.
This piece is a masterpiece that evokes the infinite expanse of the aurora.
By applying a variety of colored glazes to a well-balanced surface, he achieved a detailed color scheme, expressing a clear gradation.
He broke free from traditional Kutani overglaze enamel by designing the glazes to achieve a new aesthetic, resulting in a finish that could not be improved upon.
While he has representative series such as "Reimei" (Dawn), "Sosei" (Creation), and "Rinka" (Ring of Flowers), the number of pieces in those series is very small because more demanding expressions were sought, and this piece, named "Kyokko" (Aurora), displays a scenery worthy of its name.
The mark "Yasozo-saku" is inscribed inside the footring, under a yellow glaze.
