Born in Kyoto City, the eldest son of ceramic artist Kazuo Yagi. In 1937, graduated from the sculpture department of Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts. In 1947, published the prospectus for the "Young Ceramists Group." In 1948, formed "Sodeisha" with Osamu Suzuki, Hikaru Yamada, Misuke Matsui, and Tetsuo Kano. In 1957, became a part-time lecturer in the sculpture department at Kyoto City University of Arts (now Kyoto City University of the Arts). That same year, he began producing black ceramics for the first time. In 1969, "Kazuo Yagi Works Collection" (Kyuryudo) was published. In 1972, a solo exhibition titled "Kazuo Yagi Exhibition" was held at Isetan, Tokyo, where he presented his "Book Series." In 1978, at "FICA78" held at the Grand Palais in Paris, he displayed his works "Haiku I ~ XI" in an exhibition titled "Kazuo Yagi Ceramic Sculpture Exhibition," receiving high acclaim.
