Morihiro Hosokawa, a former Prime Minister, began making pottery after his retirement from politics, and his works have captivated many people.
As a potter, Morihiro Hosokawa is highly regarded. His "Ido Guinomi" sake cups, in particular, are considered to be among his most brilliant works, showcasing his exceptional skill.
Characteristics of the Ido Guinomi:
Exquisite Balance: The works are finished just right, with the Kairagi (shark skin-like texture) not being too prominent. The Gohon (spotting) that appears across the entire interior is usually subtle, but enjoyable as it gently emerges when sake is poured.
In Ido Guinomi, "keshiki" (scenery) primarily refers to the natural changes that appear on the surface of the vessel due to firing, as well as intentionally created patterns and expressions. This is a unique feature created by the characteristics of the clay and glaze, and the conditions of the kiln during firing.
