Arikuni Kaneshige was born the third son of Sozan Kaneshige, a Living National Treasure.
From 1975, he studied pottery techniques under his father, Sozan Kaneshige.
In 1980, he became independent and held his first solo exhibition in Okayama.
Currently, he primarily produces tea ceremony ceramics such as tea bowls, fresh water jars (mizusashi), and flower vases (hanaire), as well as tableware.
He places particular importance on the interior form (mikomi) of his favorite tea bowls, pursuing a balance between usability and external appearance.
He has received numerous awards, including the Sanyo Shimbun Award at the Prefectural Exhibition, the Encouragement Prize at the Chanoyu no Zokeiten (Tea Ceremony Form Exhibition), and the Tanko Biennial Encouragement Prize.
He received the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 2002 and the Sanyo Shimbun Culture Achievement Award in 2018.
In 2019, he was certified as a holder of an Important Intangible Cultural Property designated by Okayama Prefecture.
He also focuses on solo exhibitions, which are held in various locations both within and outside the prefecture.
