Diameter: 8.5cm
This Bizen sake cup, crafted by Soso, is from the Maruyama kiln, which he inherited as the eldest son of Sozan Kaneshige. It captivates many with its harmonious blend of delicate, elegant clay and powerful form.
The ash-glazed, kiln-altered sections appear as if capturing the very moment of erosion by lava, with dull-gleaming ash clumps embodying a beauty and precariousness that draw one in.
Despite the challenging firing, the clay is not fully vitrified, miraculously retaining a fresh scarlet hue, allowing one to simultaneously enjoy its exquisite texture.
Furthermore, the "botamochi" pattern used to create the open space on the front extends to the interior, making this a piece that truly comes to life when held and used, a design characteristic of Soso, a true sake connoisseur.
